I was told it stems from unix applications, while nowadays virtually every application on probably every OS supports the search by typing Ctrl+F. Hence, this way to open the search bar is kinda obsolete, if not annoying, especially on dAmn, where the slash, when typed into the input line, is used for the commands,
/me, /topic, /kick etc. - Firefox ignores the search autostart when the focus is inside an input line/textarea, but all too often, by an accidental click, this focus can be lost, and when you try to type /me does something then, the search bar pops up, reading "me does something"... Kill The Slash is a userscript that catches these 'hotkeys', disables the popping up of the search bar. Of course you need GreaseMonkey to install this script, and the installation itself is to right-click the link at the start of this paragraph and select "Install User Script" (I bet you know the procedure by now
Please note that this fix was also included in dAmn.extend, so, if you already have that script and only want this fix for dAmn, there's no need to install the above standalone script
quote of the moment
"Es ist sinnlos, wenn wir unter uns bleiben und uns versichern, dass wir der gleichen Meinung sind."
"It's futile to stay among ourselves and assure each other that we have the same opinion."
